OK, this one took me a little by surprise.

Evil DM took an already great system (BoL) and adds another genre (Pulp Adventure) to the list of playable games! Nice, concise rules, some nice boons and flaws that capture the feel of everything from Indiana Jones and Amelia Peabody to the Shadow and the Phantom...

The adventures are also fun and well-written. I might even adapt them both to be good BoL roleplaying adventures. (Easy enough to replace San Francisco Museum with some city-state building...)

All in all, funa nd well worth it.

Althoug written for Barbarians of Lemuria, the text is incredibly clear and easy to convert to my own favorite system. Pulpy adventure at the end is a highlight.

If you already are a fan of Barbarians of Lemuria and are looking for a supplement that will allow you to play in the pulp genre, then this is it. There really isn't a whole lot else to say. Just a great all-around pulp supplement for one of the best light systems out there.

If you aren't familiar with Barbarians of Lemuria, you will need it to play this game. If you are looking for a light, flexible system that captures the sense of high adventure found in the old pulps and old time radio plays, BoL + Dicey Tales really could be your go to system.

This is a nicely designed product, with lively, relevant art that captures the pulp spirit. The new boons and flaws really help to flesh out the various pulp characters you can create easily with the BoL skeleton. Mejia really gets the genre and this is demonstrated in the text descrptions, which not only flesh out the mechanical elements of the Boons and Flaws but also add tons of inspiring little ideas for characters and adventure hooks. It's what makes this book just fun to read.

The two adventures at the back are nicely done. The first one is a bit too linear for my tastes, but should give plenty of opportunity for the players to engage in creative fisticuffs. The second adventure is much more open-ended, a very elegant little scenario that could go off in many fun directions. Together, the two adventures provide material for a wide range of group playstyles.

An excellent addition to the Barbarians of Lemuria "family"! Jeff Mejia (The Evil DM) has provided us with a really useful toolkit for full-on Pulp action. There are a wide range of careers, and Boons & Flaws for creating square-jawed heroic adventurers, wise-cracking sidekicks, dangerous femme fatales and, of course, the obligatory mad scientist. There are also rules for magic & psychic powers and scientific wizardry! You will find rules for firearms, vehicles (and car chases!) which, pretty much, mirror those found within Dogs of War (by Beyond Belief Games). Dicey Tales also provides good advice on creating a Pup "feel" in your adventures. There are two cracking adventures to get you started. Hopefully future editions will provide more of the same. If you like Pulp adventures, this is something to consider. If you like BoL, and want to take your game into a different area - this is (almost) an essential purchase.

Full Disclosure: I have some bias, having helped with the editing of Issue #1. However, bias aside, The Evil DM, a.k.a. Jeff, has hit a homerun with Dicey Tales #1.

DT #1 exudes pulpy goodness. The expanded boons and flaws just add icing. The Evil DM is expanding support for Dicey Tales too with a blog and forum, bulding a community along the release. If you liked Barbarians of Lemuria, or just like rules light systems, I can recommend Dicey Tales!

Great Product from the Evil GM! A couple years ago I wanted to run a pulp campaign with the Barbarians of Lemuria game engine. I wish DT had been available then!

The work has been done by providing appropriate character careers, boons, and flaws. Sample powers have been provided in the areas of Magic, Scientific Wizardry, and Psychic Abilities following the very open system of BoL.

Rules for firearms and vehicles have also been included along with generic samples.

Two starter adventures have been included.

This is apparently the first in what will hopefully be a long line of great supplements covering many pulp genres, such as lost world, western, or Sci-Fi.

You will need BoL to use Dicey Tales but is well worth downloading. I wish a character sheet with the DT logo had been included as well as some generic adversaries but future Dicey Tales should come to the rescue!

Another "well done" for the Evil DM!
