Delta Green: Impossible Landscapes
Publisher: Arc Dream Publishing
by Trung B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/28/2021 00:02:17

Years in the making Impossible Landscapes is a culmination of the creators of Delta Green and how in-depth, complex, and maddening the setting is truly capable of. Rather than be faced with a "tangible" and physical threat, Agents are faced with surreal horror that twists and bends their perceptions of reality. It is a campaign that, I think, rivals Masks of Nyarlathotep. If you love Delta Green, you have to pick this up.

Great contemporary scenario surrounding one of the best questions in a Delta Green that takes place in an age with cell phones and live streaming. It's a great start that leads to a classic type villain with some truly nefarious and horrible motivations. Would I call it a TPK scenario? No...but there should be at least two casualties. Good little twists throughout and perfect to run over a few sessions.

A horrific tale of the consequences of being a Delta Green agent...and what happens when that person becomes the mission.

Delta Green: The Last Equation
Publisher: Arc Dream Publishing

The first scenario that exposed me to Delta Green back when it was originally released and it hit all of the werid things that I really love about the setting. How it's grounded in the real world and that how one thing, upon discovery, can catostraphically ruin the lives of everyone in contact with it. There's a beautiful nihilism about The Last Equation that is wonderful to run and play. It's a great mystery that isn't about a monster and more about the horrors of the world that lie just beyond human comprehension. It's quintessentially Delta Green.

An excellent scenario that portrays the new "Program" of Delta Green investigating things man was not meant to know and shows that the result of even harmless scientific experimentation can yield disasterous results. Smooth to run, tense, and exciting. It's a great "closed room" scenario.

Delta Green: Handler's Guide
Publisher: Arc Dream Publishing

Very few times in your lifetime do you ever come across a group of talent that has committed so much to a property that brought something special to an already great product line. Originally a source book for Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green had the honor of being the Origin award winner of best game in 1997 and ten years later, I have very little doubt the team at Arc Dream will do it again with the Handler's Guide. This GM-oriented source book provides backstory, rituals, secret history, and much sought after continuity up to our present day in 2017 for what our secret government conspiracy has been up to since it's disbandment in the late 1960s and back to it's reactivation in the 2000s. There is a permeation of writing throughout the book that has you feel as if you are reading a declassified document that is written with such confidence in itself that it's hard not to get sucked in.

Simply put, this is an incredible book. The materials proffered to the Handler are significant. Details on important figures throughout the agency's storied history, rituals that agents may come across in the field being used against them (or, in a dire case, by them), history that allows you to plan your scenario or campaign, and tons more. If you had ever been a fan of the Delta Green property, you would do yourself a disservice by not having this in your collection for the materials within. Even if you are not a fan of the setting (though, how could you not be?), this is a well-written and well-presented book that has a place on anybody's shelf if you have any interested in running a conspiracy based game at all.

The art? There's absolutely everything to say about the art by Dennis Detwiller. Each piece providing thought prompt of what unnatural and unearthly phenomenon wracks the depicted. It's gorgeous, thoughtful, and can be terrifying to some. The best way to describe it is that it fits with the game and the setting.

In conclusion, great book, worth the price, and certainly worth the 1d10 SAN loss.

Delta Green: Lover in the Ice
Publisher: Arc Dream Publishing
by Trung B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/24/2016 18:29:54

This scenario is for mature audiences and deals with sexual themes

Now that the obligatory warning is out of the way, time for the review! Lover in the Ice by Caleb Stokes is a great Delta Green scenario adopted from the original Call of Cthulhu system. Without going into too many spoilers, the agents are dispatched to a small town in Missouri in the middle of a terrible snow storm. Communications are weak and the environment is hostile. Tasked with investigating the condition of a Green Box, the agents discover it has been compromised and set off to find and contain whatever might be missing. And then, terror.

Caleb Stokes puts his spin on isolation horror with the agents cut off from major assistance and a very bad thing wandering around in the inhospitable environment. Intuitively paced, smartly written, and very engaging. Lover in the Ice is an exceptional Delta Green scenario that will put players to the test with finding out what's wrong and how to prevent it from killing themselves and dooming the country to a rather terrible fate. A great scenario for a one-shot or as part of a campaign. I would highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys Delta Green or horror gaming in general.

The Sprawl // MIDNIGHT
Publisher: Ardens Ludere
by Trung B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/09/2016 13:49:58

As a huge fan of the cyberpunk setting, I have played the heavy hitter games like Shadowrun and Cyberpunk 2020. I've seen many hacks to integrate the setting into the system and didn't prefer them. However, Hamish Cameron chose wisely when he decided to bring cyberpunk to the apocalypse (world). Author Hamish Cameron opted to use the influence of William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy and delivers a great game that, I feel, captures the cybernetic heart and soul of what it means to play a cyberpunk game: Get some work, get paid, and deal with double crosses, corporations gunning for you, and create your own legacy as an operator in a world where if you don't find a use for the streets, they will find a use for you.

The Sprawl works wonderfully as a PBTA type game with most cyberpunk archetypes being defined in the playbooks. Cameron adds notable quotes to the intro of each playbook to help capture the appeal of each one and continues to help the book ooze chrome. The game flows beautifully as a narrative game with players defining what they're on the run from and what they're gunning for.

It's an excellent product that's a steal at the price and if you have any enjoyment of cyberpunk, you'll do yourself no harm by picking up The Sprawl.
