XCrawl, the reality show of the future; with a slight fantasy twist. If you liked films like The Running Man or enjoyed the Cube; then you will enjoy this.

This is the ultimate dungeon crawl, with not just treasure; but fame and fortune awaiting those brave enough. Watched by millions, teams are pitted not only against the XCrawl; but also other teams. The Dungeon Judge (DJ) controls the Crawl, while players attempt to plunder the riches within.

Its a good solid game, with a fantasy feel; but with a bloody reality twist. Gain fame points for that special move you have developed, the crowd roaring your name as you slay the zombies. However, remember one thing about XCrawl - if you die, you die!

Finally trying to catch and do reviews the stuff I have bought.

X-Crawl Core rulebook

This a great concept for a game. It is quite a niche product and if your gaming group is like mine this might be a hard sell. I feel this game is a mixture of American Gladiators and D&D and a fun attitude of a game like Paranoia. You may think otherwise so keep that in mind. This would be a fun game in between regular games/campaigns to have fun with and to breakup the seriousness of most campaigns.. I heartily recommend this game for a fun filled gaming experience.

Fairly interesting setting but I was disappointed in how little new magic there was. You would think that in a setting where technology advanced alongside magic there would be more technologically related magic as well as fusions of magic and technology. If magic and technology have advanced side by side for thousands of years as supposed by this setting where are the technomagical fusions that are superior to either magic or technology alone?. Where are the technology enhancing or substituting magics? In the d20 Modern setting, where magic has returned only a few years before, there are far more spells that affect technology.

One more thing - why does the cover say color edition when the entire product is black & white?

Very nice! All-around was very pleased with this product. As PDFs go it is well worth the price. I would recommend this to my friends.

I was honestly not expecting much from this product -- the basic idea, showing dungeon crawling as a professional sport, is cute but could be fully explored in a much smaller, cheaper book. Just adding the higher level spells to the d20 Modern rulebook would be able to handle it.

I was very pleasantly surprised. There are a couple of (useless) prestige classes, a rather silly system for generating a "nested" GM within the game, and some good new items and spells. Surprisingly, though, the meat of the book is a full-fledged setting, a differently-imagined dystopian America ruled by Emperor Ronald Reagan and dominated by clergy of the Roman Gods.

Xcrawl itself isn't the most interesting feature of the setting, but it's a great excuse for getting PCs up to a decent level before involving them in the real meat of the setting -- the intrigue in the Leagues, how they can use their celebrity to change the world around them, and how they interact with the lunatic populace and government.

The oversimplicity of the idea they're selling the book on should be chalked up to the marketers. The writers and designers did a crackerjack job creating an innovative "fantasy modern America" well worth exploring.
