The rules are light, but not in a good way. More an untested kind of way.

The Defence mechanism is odd and not explained well; why buy a shield if armor functions better? There's no stacking, common to the sword-and-board warrior in armor mentality. On top of that, a warrior in regular armor can only be hit on a 4 exactly; no regular encounters give a bonus to hit you. I rolled magic armor on my third encounter, meaning I could no longer be hurt until fighting the dragon (and even then the dragon can't hit you, only hurt you with fire)! How is that balanced or fun?!

This also CAN be played solo, but there's no race. Locked doors and getting lost means nothing. And with the above mentioned, you can just grind until you get magic items and enough money to buy 5-6 full heals and then "win" the game.

Still, as someone else said, this was free so I can't complain too much. There's just some serious room for improvement.

SLÖTTERPIT: a scenario & monsters for MÖRK BORG
Publisher: Urizenic

I recently bought MÖRK BORG and some of its supplements, including this one. I paid nothing for it, as I come back and pay for things if they are worth it. Now, I'm a bit of a newbie to this game, but not to RPGs, tabletop, or multimedia design. That being said, I don't feel this is worth its asking price.

Why? A number of reasons, but mainly this just feels lazy. It completely disregards MÖRK BORG's unique style of layout and use of colors. The lore it tries to set up feels passionless. At least it's wrote well. The lore also feels conflicting, mentioning how SHE is pregnant and then it sets up this other creature, with mechanics that don't make a lot of sense. For the amount of space there is, there could have stood to be more descriptions.

FWIW the pregnancy stuff doesn't bother me, and doesn't reflect in my review.

And I feel like the art doesn't mean anything. Usually the art of MÖRK BORG is striking and representative of the topic at hand. This work could have been much better if fleshed out more, and ignored the picture it doesn't even reference.

tldr; it seems half-baked and not in the MÖRK BORG style. Its not a scenario, but it is a collection of monsters.

This is easily my 9 year old's favorite part of Hero Kids. He wants even more options to choose from when creating his entourage of friends (he plays solo, so I let him have pets as extra characters). Please release a second volume!

Hero Kids - Fantasy Adventure - Yuletide Journey
Publisher: Hero Forge Games

I tried this out with my 7 and a half year old at Xmas time, doing the appropriately themed Yuletide Journey. At first the rules were a bit daunting for him but he got the hang of it. When it came time to roleplay with the NPCs, however, he got embarassed and didn't really want anything to do with it. We ended up not finishing the story.

Today, my son now only a month away from being 9, we rediscovered Hero Kids and we played Basemet O Rats. He really enjoyed the rules and the combat, so much so that he wanted to play another adventure. So we broke out ye olden Yuletide Journey again. This time around he had a blast, though he still didn't really roleplay with any of the NPCs. He played along with the fantasy portion of it much more than last time, though, imagining the way the scenes looked and pretending to listen for clues.

I can say that, with a little prodding on my part, we both really enjoyed this module and finished it to the end. It is well written, though I think it could use a little more organization from page to page. Let me explain; it was sometimes jarring to read what came up right before a combat page. I would sometimes feel I was flipping back and forth trying to figure out what was supposed to be going on. But if a person has experience GMing for their friends, they would probably be fine.

My only reason for not being 5/5 is, as I said above, just slightly odd organization. The content itself is quite wonderful and I enjoyed the Xmas/Norse crossover :)
