MA4e is the 4th edition of the world’s first Sci-Fi RPG. It is designed to be playable, and not to get bogged down in rules. It is flexible, and values fun over mechanics.   The game has been developed by a small team of dedicated Metamorphosis Alphaenthusiasts, supervised by James M. Ward himself. This game has been a long time coming.   The game has evolved a lot since 1976. The new version of the game has tried to emulate the original 32 page book, in that the mechanics are simple and functional. The adventure begins, as per the original, on the Starship Warden, a massive ship that has experienced disaster.   Rather than just simple radiation, as in the first edition, the ship has been exposed to radiation, mutation-causing substances and aliens. It is a busy place to wake up in!
This electronic edition of the game contains all known errata, and color versions of much of the artwork and cartography included in the hardcover book, as well as a few tweaks here and there :)
 
We have also taken the time to bookmark the pdf to make finding things a little easier :)

J. Ward still owns it all. He currently wrote starship warden and published it through Troll Lord games. It uses the original MA 1e or the Siege Engine system like Amazing Adventures or Castles and Crusades.

Does anyone play this game anymore? I think it sounds like an interesting game but can't find anyone to play with. For that matter, it appears that WardCo isn't even in business - who owns 4e?

I haven't played MA for decades, but I think Ward Co Ceased operations in the last few years because James Ward shed this mortal coil.

You might try Gamma World, as it was based on MA, but was somewhat more popular.

Jeff was wrong about Jim Ward's death - but not by long. Kind of creepy that he made this comment and then Jim passed on March 18.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
