Swords & Wizardry Non-Human PCs - Expanded!

In Swords & Wizardry White Box, Dwarves can only be fighters, but they get a +1 to-hit bonus against orcs and goblins. In Swords & Wizardry Complete, Dwarves have a wider variety of class options, but they lose that +1 bonus.

This book is for players who would like to have both. It is also for players who love running non-humans in general, and is designed to take your non-human role-playing experience to a whole new level!  Includes the following:

  • Expanded non-humans:  combines the White Box non-human special abilities with the Complete non-human class options into one super rule set.
  • New Gnome and Half-Orc PC rules.
  • Trait tables to add nuance and distinctiveness to your non-human characters - 60 new traits!
  • House rules collected from traditional sources.
  • Capsule descriptions and bibliography of other available Swords & Wizardry non-human PC books and resources.
  • All in a colorful, convenient, and concise digest-sized reference.

Written by a long-time gamer with a love for playing non-humans, this guide is sure to bring your Swords & Wizardry demi-human PCs to life!

If you are also a player of Swords & Wizardry Light, be sure to check out the companion volume, Non-Human Player Codex for Swords & Wizardry Light. And if you play Labyrinth Lord or any B/X version of the Original Game, be sure to have a look at Non-Human Player Codex for Early Era Fantasy Gaming as well.

Shouldn't this be called "Non-Human Character Codex"?

Good point. I went back and forth on it for a bunch. On the one hand, I agree: right now the literal meaning is that the player is the non-human. On the other hand, the title is meant to allude to the standard traditional titles like "Player's Handbook," "Player's Guide," etc. Maybe a good compromise should have been "Player's Guide to Non-Humans." At the same time, I really do like just "Non-Human Character Codex" as you said. Also i have been seriously thinking about changing "Non-Human" to "Demi-Human". I'd like to get around to title changes one of these days; am on another project but hope to come back to it. Thanks for feedback and hope you enjoy!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
