Lost Artifacts of Greyghast is a magic item compendium for 5th Edition fantasy role-playing. This enormous tome is full of hundreds of unique and deeply storied magical artifacts--each with special backstories, "ready for your campaign" origins, special attunements that drive sidequests and gameplay activities, and fun mechanics that won't break your game or bore your players.

This book will be a cornerstone of any DM's table, a real go-to reference for the right magical treasure for your game.

Inside you'll find variant rules to make magic item identification smoother and more rewarding for "knowledgeable" and "smart" characters, dozens of tables and indices so you can look through the whole catalogue in different ways (alphabetically, by type, by recommended class, by complexity, etc.), and gorgeous custom illustrations from some of the most talented fantasy artists on the scene today.

I've been using these items for a long time to torture my players. Once I have the monz, I'll come back and buy the most expensive option here.

This book would be a lot more useful if it had some random treasure tables.

You know? We debated that for so, so long--whether to include that. Ultimately, we decided that because there were so many items (hundreds) and people are so particular about the ones they like that any table with all of them would be TOO random. So, then, we thought "Ok, so maybe a number of tables, like a dozen different tables) and even then we did mock ups and there were just too many to make it easy to work with.

Our priorities were (in order) Content (items), Navigation (ways of searching/finding items by many vectors of interest), and Usability (like the Notes sections and the like). Rollable tables would have been under the third.

You're not wrong, Seth--tables for random rolling would have been cool, but we figured of all the content we could provide? That was the easiest for owners to handle themselves.

Good tip, though. : )

Next time? We'll have to see about moving that up.

Considering your hardcover version. Is it truly worth the $38 for the premium vs. standard? What is the difference in paper quality? Also looking to add a review of your product on my new site. Just started adding content. www.SunnyD20.com Let me know if you are planning a future Kickstarter. I added my first featured Kickstarter on Halloween.

I love the creativity of all of the magic items and the ART however I do wish they had a selling price for them. My one regret is that I didn't get the printed version for my library

Josh, I swear... we went round and round on whether to include prices (in character). Lots of good arguments on both sides. We ended up passing on it because we wanted to keep the feeling that these things were "one of a kind" in any world. True "artifacts" that are sorta priceless for their history and whatnot, not just priced because of their power level.

But, you're in great company--the number one request we've had from fans has been "but, yeah, it'd still be helpful if I knew how much to sell one for by an NPC".

Here's my rule of thumb:

There are 3 levels of "complexity" for the items. For simple items, half the party's cash should be the price. For moderately complex items, all their cash. For the advanced complexity stuff, 1.5x their cash.

Give them reasons to spend treasure and have to find treasure. 5e doesn't really offer enough to spend the money on, we find. The NPC may have the awesome Crest, but...See more

Thanks for the response! Now I'm still kicking myself in the XXX for not getting the hardback. After the pdf came in I realized how terrible I am at referencing Pdf's while prepping or during game play. Although I know for some people, it's ideal.

I'll keep my eye out for these price lists or just think of yours...sounds like a good measure.

I'll send you a discount code for the hardcover--it won't be free (there are always printing/shipping charges, at the most), but I can knock it down to close to that for you. Email me at flannel@manysideddice.com

I've seen some of the items the author has published on reddit, and I find them very creative. This would definitely be a book in my library if it weren't for the prohibitive price. $22 for a pdf is extremely steep. It's more money than some full game systems, and more money than a full campaign guide. And it sounds like the author didn't hire an editor, either.
For this kind of price, I'd expect something with a pretty high production value.

The price has certainly come down and I can only say that we put a lot of love and quality into the product. I hope you take it for a spin, honestly. I'm proud of the work.

About half of the instances of "it's" should be "its", and a good portion of that are grammatically correct are in the context (e.g. outside of dialogue) where casual contraction just makes for poor writing, so they should be "it is" or "it has".

The Helm of Prey has some mechanical issues -- "Any sneak attacks or surprising attacks made against the wearer are made at disadvantage"
1) if the sneak attack occurs because of advantage, then is at disadvantage (and then not a sneak attack)?
"...with a Reaction"
2) if the target is surprised, they can't take reactions

For Helm of Prey, to clarify:

A. No matter how the sneak or surprising attack is established (advantage, other reasons), once it is established (the attack is a Sneak Attack, getting the extra damage or other benefits), then that attack must be made at Disadvantage. It doesn't make the attack NOT a Sneak Attack, only makes the Sneak Attack peculiarly hard to land.

B. The item's system overrides the books, in this case--following the "more specific overrules general" idea. Many of the items do that. Normally, one doesn't get a Reaction if surprised. This item allows one to, but only for a narrow purpose--in response to being surprise attacked and for the purposes of moving afterward.

Thanks!

I know the PDF is meant to mirror the bound versions, but the size of the file makes browsing a little tedious. Please consider breaking up the volume into a set of smaller PDFs as an alternative download. These would be much easier to browse and particular content easier to find as item types would be limited by the particular file.

On page 229 for Lord of Stories, under the System section, last paragraph, it states "Doing so reduces their maximum hp by
1d0..." I assume that is supposed to be 1d10?

Yes, yes!

You can find our Errata (which will be put into an updated PDF for free download for people that own it already) at https://manysideddice.com/errata-for-lost-artifacts-of-greyghast/

170k words (or near about). That one single thing irks me. But thanks for calling it out! We'll make it all right, promise. Patrick!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
