Revised edition!

You can redownload the game to get the updates if you have already purchased it. Do not miss our crowdfunding for a hardcover edition!

A true Revolution in D100 gaming

This game proposes a new approach to percentile-based role-playing games, while keeping the unique flavour of classic D100. In the book you will find: class-less and skill-based character generation; an intuitive percentile resolution method; lethal combat; supernatural powers; and many more of the hallmarks which made D100 games so popular.

This game also features:

  • Native multi-genre support: play fantasy, steampunk, historical, cyberpunk, space opera and more.
  • A new approach to the percentile die that does not require calculations.
  • Distinct roles for characteristics and skills.
  • Streamlined system to run all significant events as extended conflicts.
  • Basic combat based on conflict rules, for when violence is not the main course
  • Optional advanced combat with greater level of detail, for when the clash of steel is important.
  • Basic power list with countless possibilities for customization.
  • Four sample power types: Arcane Magic, Divine Magic, Psionics and Weird Science.
  • Do-it-yourself system for designing weapons and armour, both historical and hi-tech.
  • Rules for character-created gadgetry and potions, as well as enchantments.
  • An introductory scenario, The Quest for El Dorado

Revolution D100 forms the basis for the next generation of products by Alephtar Games, in order to continue our award-winning tradition of accurate historical research, coupled with exciting fantasy elements, and to explore new avenues like science fiction, steampunk or pulp adventure. It is also highly compatible with our first-generation products.

Also available (optional): Combat Cards to make Advanced Combat more exciting.

Not for this edition, at this point. We will consider it for the next release in late 2020/early 2021.

Hi. Are there plans for a zombie apocalypse setting/supplement? How does Revolution D100 handle character aging?

Hello David,

There are no plans for a ZA setting. AFAIK none of the existing D100 systems has a ZA setting available. However, Revolution D100 is pèossibly the easiest system to convert Savage Worlds stats to, so it could somehow facilitate conversion of the many excellent ZA supplements for SW to a D100 version.

Rd100 does not include rules for aging. The system focuses on allowing characters to do heroic things, so although it is realistic, decreasing stats for older characters was not among our main concerns. It is very easy to import rules from other D100s which have such rules, though, such as RuneQuest: Glorantha. Just apply those rules as they are and you should be fine.

I was trying to create a necromancer, but it seems the RAW are pretty against that. Skeletons have no will or intelligence so summoning them or dominating them is impossible. Is this a correct interpretation?<br>
<br>
(When it comes to fantasy setting I LOVE necromancers. Other genres seem OK with my playstyle so far)

Examples of necromancy are in the supplements, not in the core rules. Ritual casting of Animate Bone will do the trick, although this creates a skeleton that the necromancer must move like a marionette by concentrating on it. The character of Ximena in the Conspiracy Theory is a necromancer, and uses this spell. If you are looking for a more classic approach, there are specific necromantic rituals that allow the creation of zombies, skeletons and ghouls in the Shade Land supplement.

Would you re-post your question on brpcentral.org so that other people can see the answer?

The Roll for Effect table has me confused (Page 48)
It reads for instance - ATTACKER FAILURE and DEFENDER SUCCESS means ATTACKER inflicts 1d6 damage to the
Defender (2d6 on a higher roll). Shouldn't the ATTACKER receive the damage since they failed and the DEFENDER succeeded?

I am confused.
Please help.

In fact, this is a mistake that this latest release was supposed to fix but did not fix. Please swap the labels "ATTACKER" and "DEFENDER" on the topmost row and leftmost column.

Did anyone notice other typos/errors which the update left unfixed? If this is the only case - and it was reported twice so far, so people have been perusing the PDF - we will release a new, stable version before the end of the year.

We are working on the PoD, but I am afraid it will turn out to be less captivating than the dead tree version we print on our own, on glossy paper. You can get it at our own web store rpgmeeting.org.

Okay. How to say this... Hmmm... you really need to put on your ordering website that this book is a softback book and not a hardback book. When I ordered it from your webstore, for the price and from everything you said mentioned here I was under the impression that it would be hardback. Also, I would have rather paid for a premium hardback through drivethru for a hardback had I known. Still, I have no regrets, and the content between the covers is quite amazing, so this response is just about the pure physicality of the book itself.

And, this book does NOT NEED glossy paper. It's just a black and white interior. If it was a full color spread, with a lot more artwork, I'd say perhaps it could use the glossy paper. But this... no. The glossy paper does provide a nice quality, but using the word need is a bit overstating it. When I read this in your comments it was another reason why I imagined it'd be a hardback book.

The separate cards add-on though, those are really nice and will...See more

99mb? How many pages? Are they bitmaps or searchable pdf text?

Help for Tablet and Phone users:
Load the file.
Print to PDf sections of the book via custom output - page range. Name it REV character Creation (or whatever).
Do this for whatever smaller chunks that help
Then you have a few smaller files open but only the section you want on screen. The refresh will be faster.
This also allows for easier multi section viewing. Just alt tab between sections (windows).

Hi Gary
Bob Here. I have to express my opinion on"simple" from your comment. I have been reading the conflict rules in R d100 off and on for days. I am still confused and I've been running and playing tabletop RPGs for 35 years. The needed rules are buried in paragraph after paragraph of wordy and sometimes confusing writing. What am I missing? I want to play this game. My head hurts from trying to get a line on the conflict rules alone. This game may be simple but the simple part is buried in what I consider verbose rules that could - should be condensed. My hat is off to Alephtar games for an interesting work. But PLEASE rewrite this and streamline it.

Timed out..
As I was saying...I will continue to read this work and get it on the table. I know there is a gem here. I may need an aspirin for my headache on the way. Peace.

The aspirin as an add-on to the physical product might be an appropriate suggestion, thanks :)

On a more serious note, we have decided to spread the conflict rules over several sections in order to guide players in the process of "paradigm shift" from action to extended conflict. This was in response to user feedback which asked for "incremental" rules they could try in a simplified form, and then progress by adding the more complex cases as they became more confident with the mechanics. Of course, if you are used to understanding all the details of a game from reading it, without trying the rules on the way (which is perfectly reasonable, but not what the first readers asked), you might find there is a lot to swallow in a single morsel.

When playing, you need only have the simplified table on page 38 or the advanced one on page 52 under your eyes. Mechanically, there is not much more.

I'm glad to finally see the fruit of your labors. The pdf, though. 99MB? Please consider trimming that down for your e-reading customers. Given the sizes of other such pdfs that I have seen, I am sure there are ways for you to do that without adversely affecting the quality of your offering.

yes, 100MB is a bit on the big side. But on Linux, this helps:

gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/ebook -dNOPAUSE -dQUIET -dBATCH -sOutputFile=rD100-small.pdf Revolution_D100.pdf

It creates a 23MB file, good enough for viewing (and a lot faster).

Hi John. We are aware of the trouble that cellphone/tablet users may have with such a big PDF. We had some trouble with a previous "optimised" version so I preferred to keep it full-size rather than risk having to re-upload it in a hurry as it happened last time we performed optimisation. We will try to address the problem in some days, but I cannot promise anything for sure.

You can already buy the print book at our own online shop rpgmeeting.org. We are currently shipping the first pre-orders and kickstarters backer kits. We are considering the Print-on-demand option here on DriveThru, too, but I do not recommend that you wait for it. The book needs glossy paper to print and I am currently unsure of the results if using OBS services. If - and I stress IF - we eventually offer it via DriveThru, it may take months before it is available. Versus being available immediately on RPG Meeting.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
