Go for the Gold!

This product is included on our newest initiative, the Go for the Gold program!

-         Every metal level (Copper, Silver, Gold, Electrum, and Platinum) that Legacy’s Wake achieves, additional content will unlock for everyone who purchases it!

-         We want to continue to support our work and give you, our awesome customers the best possible product. All content released from hitting Copper through Platinum will be free for anyone who purchases Legacy’s Wake bundle, regardless of when they purchase it.

COPPER

We’ve already hit Copper! We’ll soon be releasing a supplement called Denizens of the Bridges. This supplement offers an in-depth look at several famous (or infamous) NPCs and locales in the city. It will be ideal for helping you breathe life into Skyfall. Each NPC and Locale will feature plot hooks, roleplaying angles, and ways to tie them in with our existing products.

SILVER

When we hit Silver (tell your friends!), we will create and unlock a supplement on Corsair’s Drift!  This floating city is the dark mirror of Skyfall: dirtier, more dangerous, and twice as pirate-filled.  This supplement will provide enterprising GMs with a sandbox style experience, great for fleshing out trips to the floating city or perhaps even running an entire campaign on its shifting streets.

Electrum and Beyond? We have awesome content planned for each metal level. When we hit Silver, we’ll announce Electrum here!

I ran this all way to level 19 with 5 players sometimes up to 7. Took us 4 years and a few months, 60% of the time was every two weeks playing for roughly 4 hours sessions. Everyone who played loved the characters loved the story, i did minor corrections to a few things but pretty much ran it as written with all the side quest all the way to the end. Would love to see you guys run another campaign out of Skyfall. For new DM’s i would highly recommend running this for your friends.

We just did a big errata update and layout fix as part of our most recent Kickstarter. To put it bluntly we were very new when we first made Legacy's Wake and we have learned *A lot* about layout since then. The new version is all the same content but thanks to better layout is about 60 pages shorter. We also did a comprehensive errata review and fixed a bunch of minor issues such as slightly different monster names and things. The revised version is of course free to everyone that purchased or otherwise had a copy of Legacy's Wake. The original file is still available if you for some reason prefer the old version.

I'm not sure if you're still responding to comments, but there's one thing really jarring me when reading this, the scale of the cavern.

Legacy's Wake says that there are hundreds of thousands of people living there. The Traveler's Guide says that the cave is two leagues across and half a league high. By my knowledge a league is roughly 3 miles. All is clear so far.

The confusion I have comes from specific sections on locations or descriptive text in episodes. Legacy's Wake describes the Belowdecks crystal as hanging 100ft from the ceiling. This book also describes the Beseiged Cliffs as being 500ft above sea level, with the cavern being under 200ft of bedrock. To me, this implies that the ceiling of Skyfall is 300ft up - nowhere near half a league (~9000 feet).

Additionally, in Encounter 1.1, the Crew are in the Palisade District, and the "swing through howling wind sixty feet above the tumultuous sea". If the crystal hangs 100ft from the ceiling, how can the PCs...See more

Good catches all. We are in the process of doing a revised version (which will be free to anyone that already has a copy) I will make sure we address these points.

In the preview, there's a handout with some racist stuff going on in it. If racism is an X card in my group, is this campaign easily playable without using racism in the setting?

Skyfall is cosmopolitan port city that is a crazy melting pot of fantasy and monster creatures. There are some truly alien residents of the city and not everyone is ok with all of them. If your group x cards racism (which hey I get) I don’t believe too much would have to change.

There is a character in the first adventure the PCs are working against who is (or at least pretends to be) pretty prejudiced against the monster denizens of the city) for political gain. We’d be happy to work with you to tweak any story elements to avoid x cards at your table. Other than that character racism isn’t a driving motivation of any plots or characters.

Some of our playable races are significantly different from standard fantasy races. How those characters get along in a society that sees them as different is certainly an aspect A player might choose to explore but I imagine if your group is using xcards you’re probably avoiding those character stories.

I’d like to make sure...See more

About to run it with 6 players - unfortunately I discovered it first through the Kickstarter campaign information, where it states 4-6 players. Since I already have the group signed up to play, it's going to have to be with 6.

It's easy enough to scale up the battles by adding hit points to the monsters, but it seems like many of the cut scenes assume 5, and only have handouts for 5. Do you folks have something you can post to support a 6th player?

That is something we are addressing as part of the edits on the book for the "revised edition" which will drop soon, If you've ever had a copy of LW through DTRPG you will get the revised version when it posts. In the mean time we suggest either doubling up on a cut scene character using the existing ones as a guide for creating an additional.

There sure was an expected timeline! It flew by with a funny fluttering sound. To be completely honest Covid has really thrown a wrench in the works. In addition to being “essential” (in non heroic ways) both of us have had to pick up extra responsibilities at work and at home. We aren’t far away from done, but progress will be very slow until our day jobs get back to normal.

Should be easy enough, we'd say just tweak the encounters as needed and you should be fine.

About how long of a session is 1 episode?

That is a very tough question as it plays differently (potentially a lot) depending on your group. I would say in general an episode take 1-2 average game sessions of ~4 hours. If you are all business with not a lot of table talk and everyone is very tuned in and not needing rules references you could run a good deal faster.

We played our first game of LW last month, starting with the prequel side quest (including in the book). We run 8-hour sessions, although we take a lunch break and a couple small ones along the way.

In the end, my 6-player group had completed encounter 7 (out of 10) of the prequel. The prequel is pretty simple, and is shorter than any of the episodes, so I am at this point expecting a total of 12 8-hour sessions overall, roughly broken down to 2 sessions per episode, and 1-1.5 sessions per side quest. In other words, a year (we play once a month).

Do note, however, that I have added an entire story driven "side campaign" to LW that is running alongside the main one - so my players have a decent amount of extra narrative to deal with. While it does not add any encounters, its complexity rivals or exceeds that of the LW story, and it is interweaved into the existing world, so it delays things as the player are trying to figure out how to deal with all the extra information. It's...See more

How hard is it to divest the insectoid races from this setting and its story/sidequests?

For the most part it would be as simple as swapping races out for npcs. There are a few instances of npcs being driven by something key to that insectoid that would require a slight rework. One of the side quests deals pretty heavily with the insects but it isbset in the distant past. You could either run it and assume that in the time since insects have disappeared or skip thatvside quest since they are designed to be skippable. We’d be happy to help with more detailed discussions on how to tweak feel free to hit us up via email through the our website.

Great question! Here are our in character and out of character thoughts on the issue:

I/C
Skyfall is a massive port city with ships from all over the world / planes depending on your campaign. There would be people worshipping nearly every deity.

The senate quashes strong organized religion as a threat to its existence. So the religion that does exist is either smaller scale or has elements of secrecy and behaves more like a cult.

OOC
Skyfall was designed to be placeable in any campaign world. We avoided dictating a cosmology to make it as easy to drop in as possible.

The war for religion in the city sounds like it would be a cool adventure or adventure path down the road #NoPromisesYet

If you were looking for our view of what would work I’d suggest the following:

The biggest followings in the city would probably be tied to things like Ocean, Commerce, Storms. I can imagine sea captains following specific faiths holding...See more

That bit about it being placeable in any setting is interesting, because the look and feel does kind of make me think of D&D's Eberron setting, even the Mithrilpunk logo, to some extent.

We are big fans of Eberron. Also Scarred Lands. Shadowrun too.

Skyfall actually started life about 30 years ago in Chris’ notebooks. He and I (Warren) played in a couple dnd games and shadowrun and brought a lot of cyberpunk feel (hence mithrilpunk) Derek came slightly later and brought tons of ideas from many settings (mostly home brewed).

In our view at least it isn’t any one thing. ideally Skyfall is just over the horizon of any campaign world. One fan theory I enjoyed is that Skyfall is a demiplane of nautical adventure. Anyway you want it, it works.

Question: On page 164, Encounter 3 of Bovine Chicanery, the encounter refers to Grothik Wasp Riders as the enemies to fight.

I could not find an entry for Grothik Wasp Riders (or just a generic Wasp Rider) in the bestiary. Am I just missing it? Is it under a different entry (or perhaps in a different supplement)?

I really like the look of the whole campaign, I just noticed the above while outlining and prepping.

Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
