Probably a dumb question but if I printed these tiles out on A4 paper and taped them all together what would the size of each layer be? Looking at laminating options so the size in inches would be great! Thanks

This product is not what I was expecting.

I was looking for a product that was ready to print on my home A4 laser printer.

I wanted a quick and easy to use alternative to me drawing my own battlemaps.

This is not what I got.

As an example…

Page 2 of the PDF shows a battlemap that is 20 inches square.
Represented on an A4 page.
I note for clarity that an A4 page is 8 ¼ by 11 ¾ inches.
So this image, if printed on an A4 page will not provide one inch squares.

To get this PDF page to scale correctly is guesswork.
Then to print to tiles, across multiple A4 pages, is more guesswork.
I tried some guessing for about a half a day.

Then I spent a day looking at the images that come with the product.
Maybe I could print these to the appropriate scale and tile them?
After a day using three different image programs, I downloaded an app called PosteRazor. Still teaching myself how to use...See more

Hi Mac,

Sorry to hear you've had trouble printing this.

I would like to address your points.

First, page 2 of the pdf is labelled on the page as 'Overview' and is never intended to be printed as the full sized map - it's just to show you what the level looks like. So, there's no need to try and scale that up to a full sized battlemap.

The pdf contains, after the overview page, tiled pages where the levels are cut up and spread across multiple A4 pages. As mentioned on the very first page of the pdf, the default size of the square is 28mm but if you want 1" squares then print these at 91% scale.

So, I am a little confused that you've asked for a product where the maps are tiled to print across A4 pages, when the pdf literally is that :) You'd just need to scale the pages to 91% of the original (as described in the instructions) to get 1" squares. I'm just wondering - did you look through the full pdf, or just the first pages with...See more

Hello Sir,

I appreciate your speedy reply.
Your link to an image showing tiled pages was an eye opener.
I have already permanently deleted my downloads.
Too long an IT professional and too frustrated.
But my PDF was six pages long.
Having spent a day with the PDF I can remember the details well.
So I downloaded the PDF again and find a thirty-seven page PDF.
With wonderfully tiled images.
Thank you very much.

Kind regards,
-Mac

Could someone tell me what the file sizes for the maps are? I can only upload a max of 10 MG at a time for roll20.

Hi Kale. The tiles are larger than 10mb so will need to be resized if you want to use them in Roll20

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
