Fantasy Core Rulebook

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Fantasy Core Gaming System is designed to be the most flexible and open-ended table top roleplaying system ever created. With Fantasy Core, you are in control of your character. No longer will you be confined to someone else's idea of how a Rogue, Wizard, or any character, should be built.

Fantasy Core starts with the framework of the 3.5 OGL system, making it easy and familiar for most gamers to work with. It then breaks free of the constrictive nature of the OGL system with a 100% rebuild of the character design process. You will find no more classes or levels. We provide the tools needed to build the character you want, the way you want it.

Instead of pre-built character classes with almost no flexibility, you now use character points to build the character you prefer.

Along with the ability to create a unique character, Fantasy Core has revised and removed many of the rules that just plain didn't make sense in 3.5 OGL, including armor rules, combat calculations, and various minor changes that many in the 3.5 community constantly pointed out as being flawed.

With this rebulid, the Magic System is also improved. You are now given the ability to create spells how you would like them to be created, while keeping the feel of the standard 3.5 spells. Magic scales based on how you build the spells, and how you use them. Magic is balanced, though, with a newly implemented "Sanity" system.

The core rulebook is all that is needed to play or run a game. It is fully setting-agnostic, with information, equipment, and abilities based on the technology level of nearly any campaign. Should you choose to play a specific setting, and want more in-depth information, there will be setting books released in the near future.

Seems like a solid system that is easily expandable and adaptable, combining good aspects from d20 and Gurps! I also liked the structure and layout of the books.
Made 2 parties now for horror and rome, can someone suggest some adventures in there to test out?

What formatting program are you using to create this? Easiest way to make it printer friendly is to put the page background image on a separate layer and then use adobe layers to turn the layer off for printing. Easy to do in InDesign, but not currently possible in Windows Publisher (no idea for other programs). You can also do it in Adobe Acrobat (not reader) but you would have to do it for each page which would take a bit of time.

Now that things have settled here (we've spent the past couple months preparing for Gen Con) we should be able to get a printer friendly copy out in the next week or two. :) I will be sure to email and let everyone know as soon as it's updated.

Printer friendly version would be nice.
Fatigue would be better as mana for magic.
Character sheet?

-- Update -- Ok, I've uploaded the file, but I don't know how long it will take for the server cache to change up. So, if you're still having problems tomorrow, let me know and I'll upload it as a totally separate title that should be available immediately. -- Update --

We updated that file when it was brought up the last time. Grrrrrr. Wonder why it didn't go through. Ok, give me about 10 minutes and I'll upload it as a secondary file so it doesn't cut it out yet again. Really sorry guys!!!

Please make printer friendly PDF. The rules look like something I might run, but I need to print it first, and this will kill my printer.

Thanks.

I have no idea why it isn't there, but it was. It must have been accidentally removed in our last update. We will get it fixed tomorrow asap. Sorry about that!

I must be doing something wrong. Still no character sheet. 129 pages. Page 128 says 'Like us on Facebook ...' and page 129 is the back cover. Can you just release the character sheet separately or something?

Not you. I am having the same issue, so I emailed the tech department (as I even tried adding in the character sheet as a secondary PDF and nada). I will let you know when it is all fixed.

Is there an option that doesn't use Sanity? I am not a fan of systems that equate magic to "things man was not meant to know" style play.

We have actually talked about alternate rules on magic. One thing that is possible would be to use fatigue instead of sanity (fatigue is already built into our system), so that it just makes you "tired" as opposed to potentially messing you up for life. It's definitely something we'll want to look into, though, to make sure that there's still a balance to it. But, if you're going high fantasy with lots of magic, and aren't too concerned about magic overpowering the game, you could use either the sanity or fatigue pools as a "mana" type, and disregard any of the effects of draining said points.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
