HackMaster Form-Fillable PC Sheet

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $0.99

This HackMaster Player Character sheet is a compact way to keep your character information at your fingertips.  It is a form that is usable with Adobe Reader 8.0 or later (get it free at Adobe.com).  The sheet is two-sided and folds in half to present four pages of character information.

If you are a member of the HackMaster Association, this is the same PC sheet available on the Kenzer & Company forums, but it has been stripped of the HackMaster logo.

While this form was designed specifically for printing out into a booklet, it is quite usable on a tablet as long as you don't mind seeing two pages presented at once. Should you desire a larger PC sheet made specifically for use on a tablet (and doesn't print up poorly either), you might be interested in my Tablet Optimized HackMaster PC Sheet.

This "form-fillable" PDF does not allow editing? What gives?

It should allow editing...I just downloaded a fresh sheet from DTRPG and tested it. I was able to enter information, use the "Save As" option, and then open & change the sheet. Now I am using a full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro. I'd have to set up a different computer with Adobe Reader to see if there is some functionality loss I am not aware of. It did work for me when I tested it four years ago.

If you are using a different program to read PDFs there may be some compatibility issues. Shoot me an email and I'll gladly try to figure out why it isn't working for you.

This is Adobe Reader X that I am using.

Gives a message that "the document was modified to disable extended features. Please contact author for original version of document."

Odd, because when I look at the copy I downloaded and I attempt to "Enable Usage Rights" I get the message : "This document already has enabled usage rights in Adobe Reader. To remove Reader Enablement, use File> Save a Copy". Basically if you use one type of saving you'll mess up the functionality. Honestly I have no clue why Adobe did this unless if drastically cuts down on the file size, which I suspect it does.

Try downloading a new copy, change some things, and try to "Save As" instead of "Save a Copy". By default simple saving is not enabled, largely to make sure you have one pristine copy of the file. When I first created this I accidentally filled everything out for one PC and saved. When I wanted the sheet for another PC I had to delete all the information off of the only sheet I had.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
