The rules cyclopedia has nothing to do with 2e. The rules cyclopedia is a compilation of the rules from the BECME boxed sets.

There is only one sentence regarding Specialty Priests in the book... The OEM book had a few paragraphs on the concept, which was enough to give DM's enough to create their own SP's. That is a tragedy! The Specialty Priest concept was one of the greatest aspects of the official 2e rules, and the author seems to be less than a fan of the concept. There also seems to be a great deal missing from the DM sections. To be honest, I find it disappointing. I bought the high quality ink and paper version, hoping it would replace the three core books. I guess I will be buying the OEM PDF's and spending the time, and money, to convert them into POD copies so I can have replacement hard copies. Disappointing. Very disappointing. Cheers!

Hi guys. Is there a list anywhere of the differences between this and the 2e revised books? For example I noticed Dwarves have a speed of 9 in this and a speed of 6 in the revised books. Any grand list of all the changes and revisions anywhere?
Thanks!

I think there's a bit of inconsistency in the Orc/Half-Orc listing as it applies to PCs. Orcs are described as bullying Half-Orcs because they are not as physically strong as their pureblooded kin. But Orcs can only have a maximum Strength of 18, while Half-Orce can achieve a 19 in Strength. When compared to Ogres and Half-Ogres, purebloods can have a 20 and halfbloods can have a 19 (which makes sense). I'm not sure if you're following the source material too closely or if this is an oversight.

For the monstrous races that have STR bonuses that could take them above 18, do they skip the Exceptional Strength percentile during character creation? How about if they were generated with the point buy method?

Side question, has anyone had the PDF printed at a local shop? Is it Legal or A4?

Thanks for the help and thanks for the cool one volume clone of 2e.

I have a question concerning the Dwarf race.
I noticed within the book table 2.2 (pg11) and Ability Score Adjustments (pg12), the dwarf race is referenced as having a +1 Con, -1 Dex.
This conflicts with the Example Creating a Character (pg54), where the player decides to play a dwarf. The stats are adjusted by improving constitution by 1 and reducing charisma by 1. My old 2e PH references the adjustments as +1 Con; -1 Char (pg20).
Which stats should I use?

I'd say you should go for the -1 to cha. Dwarves are kinda known for being brash and slow to trust others. -1 dex makes a lot less sense IMO, Dwarves are stout, but they're still capable fighters.

I would like to be able to publish a photo of the condition in which I received the book. Two of the corners are damaged. It would have been preferable that we put a little padding in the box, or that the box was a little more solid. It stirs a lot sometimes during transport. And the people who work at the post office are sometimes savages who don't give a damn about your customers. As for the content, it's great. I really like this game very much. My best medieval fantasy game ever.

I feel like 2.5 edition was actually the zenith of the original design philosophy of d&d - a gritty simulationist game with freeform narrative elements, puzzle solving etc, with elements of epic level heroics or high magic, but not based around pure heroics. For me, it's the real OSR.

It feels like such a shame that the combat and tactics, and complete books - kits, proficiencies etc - were not given the Piazo treatment instead of 3.5, streamlined and balanced a little, and put into a cohesive modern rule system. That _other_ path leads to abominations like pf 2nd ed, 4th and 5th ed, that are really more about some kind of gamified abstraction, where rules, not ideas are in charge.

For 2nd ed - like take thief skills for example in 2nd ed - they should just be class only proficiencies. No need for two rule systems. Just use one. THACO is a bit more complicated to work with than the newer srd d20 system, so might as well change it. profs, theif skills, thaco, ac, saves - could...See more

Loving this. Any plans to collate/collect race and class kits? I always thought that was one of the better aspects of the more classic version of this game.

So many price options! lulu has a premium for $89.00. How is that different than the $44.95 premium version here? Is this one roughly half as premium as the other?

Hello Fellow Gamers, on page 4 of 'For Gold and Glory' it says Ability Checks are done by rolling 1d20, plus modifiers and success is a result equal to or lower than the ability score. This matches page 13 of the AD&D 2E players hand book (premium edition). This means positive modifiers to the roll are penalties and negative modifiers are bonuses. However, the the example on page 4 of FG&G uses negative modifiers to the roll as a penalty. Is this just a typo in FG&G? Thank you!

yes it is just a typo, I didn't spend a lot of time fact checking until I got to the spells and magic items. My bad, my proofreader didn't catch little things like that either. - Moe Wildermuth (editor)

That's the initiative modifier you receive when you have weapons like spears set to counter charging enemies.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
