Kingdoms brings you a complete system for creating cities and founding and ruling a nation of your very own. Designed for the 5th Edition rules, Kingdoms provides rules for settlements of every size, from tiny wayside villages to a sprawling metropolis, detailing prosperity and corruption, law and learning, and a wide range of government types and special characteristics. In addition, it includes a complete system for founding a kingdom, from exploring and claiming territory to building and developing cities and issuing edicts to manage your kingdom's economy and stability and for building up the loyalty of your subjects. You can play with a simple, abstract system or use any number of optional rules to develop trade, diplomacy, and more, and Kingdoms also includes a simple system of mass combat, allowing you to build armies to defend your kingdom from enemies or raise a mighty crusade to conquer all who stand before you. Your heroes have beaten the bandits, overcome the orcish onslaught, and defeated the dragon, but in between their adventures your heroes would rather return home to a mighty throne instead of a warm campfire, now they can with Kingdoms! Grab this fantastic 5E supplement today and Make Your Game Legendary!

UPDATE: If you want even more amazing options for your kingdoms, with new buildings, noble titles, events, edicts, danger, and a robust system for managing the evolution of your villages into towns and cities, check out the brand-new Ultimate Rulership (5E) now available!

Has there been any progress on the settlement sheets? They'd really be nice to have.

Am I missing something or the cost of PURCHASING armies is not mentioned anywhere. Is the cost of purchasing (training) armies the same as the consumption cost?

Armies are created as part of the Edict phase (see Step 6 on page 18, and the footnote at the bottom of page 20). The cost of creating the army is the kingdom action itself, not a separate BP cost. The Consumption cost of the army is the cost to maintain it.

However, if you give the army any special equipment (see Recruiting Armies on pages 56-57), you do have to pay BP for that at the time the army is created, adjusting the BP cost and consumption cost based on the army's size.

There is a leftover piece of terminology on p. 56 where it talks about armies being "Medium," which was old terminology. The Platoon is what the old Medium army used to be.

Does this have bookmarks because it doesn't for me. (Also can't create my own or this wouldn't be an issue.)

I haven't heard any previous feedback about missing bookmarks. It seems to have them on my end, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't on yours.

There seems to be an error on page 49 of the PDF. The example says an army of 100 Orcs (1/2 CR) would have an ACR of 1/2. But the table indicates that an army of only 10 orcs would have that ACR. Which is correct? Thanks!

The table is correct; the text is not. The paragraph should read:

For example, an individual orc is CR 1/2, so a squad of
10 orcs is ACR 1/2; a company of 50 orcs is ACR 4 (4 steps
greater than the standard 10-unit squad). If a group’s ACR
would be lower than 1/8, it doesn’t count as an army—add
more troops until you reach an ACR of 1/8 or higher. For
purposes of calculating ACR, individual creatures whose
CR is represented solely by class levels have a CR of 1 less
than their level. For example, when calculating the ACR of
an army of level 2 fighters, consider them to have a CR of 1
(and thus an ACR of 1 for a 10-person squad of those fighters).

Two questions.

First i'm going through this and a few times it says "create medium magic items" as it does for the Everflowing Spring on page 30. Is that supposed to be "uncommon" in terms of what buildings can create and this is a hold over from the Pathfinder conversion?

Second, really this needs better sheets and quick reference information. As it stands, I'm flipping back and forth continuously trying to build a single settlement as part of 1 kingdom. Maybe it will improve with each additional use but it's extremely time consuming trying to find the information you need. The sample settlements are okay.. but as they stand there is no information on what is actually built in them. So using them is impossible. What i'd really like to see is a Settlement Sheet, I found a PF one but it doesn't have space for information on the types of bonuses that the settlement has or what it provides to the Kingdom and so the entire back of the sheet is written on. Is there any...See more

1. Yes, medium = uncommon.
2. We had planned a settlement sheet after we created the free PDF kingdom and army sheets, but the person working on that never turned it in and it slipped off the radar screen. You and another customer have brought it back to our attention recently so we've gone out to get a new person to go back and get it done and hopefully it'll be ready and up in August.

Tis now November, with nary a Settlement sheet in sight. I have come to conclusion that you should head down to the Spreadsheets Department (Thats a thing, right?) and say "Bob, this is it. Either you have the sheet ready today, or you have to clean the keyboards of everyone in the office." That would motivate me, as I have co workers who's keyboards have keys that make rather disturbing crunching noises sometimes.

LOL. It is now 1:43 AM on November 18, and I have at LONG LAST sent my final Settlement Sheet notes over to layout to modify the long-simmering draft version. It's actually going to be TWO sheets. Now that he's got them in hand, I pray I'll have good news for you soon!

10:09 PM, MST. Jan 19th, 2019. Layout has decided that two sheets is just too much. Looks like you are going to have to adjust font size and get it down to one sheet if you hope to publish this this year. Though if you can hurry that along, I am running the PF adventure path, modified for 5e, and I kinda need you to have the settlement sheets done before they start chapter 2, thanks :-)

This appears to be directly copied from the publicly available Pathfinder rules. They didn't just take some ideas, they copied and pasted large swaths of text. XXX that.

It's true! I was the original author of those rules for PF, and I took them to our 5E team to adapt them for that system. For some people, adapting rules between systems is easy and for them this product isn't necessary. For others, they would prefer to have the rules available to purchase already converted, especially as a baseline product that leads into a whole line of expansions for 5E like Ultimate Rulership, Ultimate Battle, Ultimate War, and Ultimate Factions. We're happy to provide different products for different kinds of gamers - if this one's not for you then by all means skip ahead and just get the expansions to use with your own conversion!

So I have finally gotten around to using these rules and I am kind of confused as how some things work.

So I the first is I am confused by how consumption works.

I am also confused by how terrain improvements work. Certain improvements say they can built on area with other improvements. So I am confused if that means I can build like 7 farms on one hex of terrain or if it means like farm and a mine can be on the same place along with something that doesn't have an asterisk.

And also are those settlement sheets done yet?

1. Consumption represents the abstract cost of your kingdom's activities during each month/kingdom turn. A kingdom with enough farms, fisheries, etc. can be self-sustaining if it produces enough basic resources to account for its consumption each turn (it can't go below 0). If your kingdom is expanding rapidly, or supporting a large military, or suffers a negative kingdom event, you may end up consuming more than you produce, which means you need to dip into your treasury to keep your kingdom running. If your treasury is depleted to 0, your kingdom gains Unrest, representing workers protesting, nobles and merchants becoming uncooperative or not paying taxes, etc.

2. Terrain improvements are one of each kind in a hex. A "farm" doesn't mean a single farm; it means the hex is cultivated for farming, much in the same way that building a "brothel" or "brewery" in a city square doesn't mean you literally build a single brothel or brewery the size of a stadium that covers...See more

The rules elements are translated for 5E. Things that don't relate directly to any specific PF rules are only minimally changed if at all. If you're comfortable doing those conversions yourself, you can skip ahead to Ultimate Rulership, Ultimate Battle, and the other expansions for 5E.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
